Suggestions, please.

I wish I could dodge the need for a double stroller, but I think it will be necessary with two kids under 2. I am desperately seeking advice from you skilled and seasoned mothers. Just a few requirements:

1. I don't want it to cost more than my car.

2. Not a huge fan of the side by side seats.

3. Something easy to maneuver and not too heavy.

4. Oh, and something that will keep my baby from crying, Jack from climbing out of the seats, and allow me to shop for hours on end.

Help me please.

i love my side by side mclaeren. but i have seen recently some really cool double strollers out there that are not side by side. i guess that was not much help. good luck.

maybe I should reconsider the side by side.

can you clip a carseat into the side by side ones?

They just seem so wide to me. Hard to get through doorways, clothing racks, crowds, etc.

fill me in.

I have a peg prego side by side. You can't clip a car seat into the one that I have and it is such a pain to go shopping with. I spend more time adjusting clothing racks than I do shopping. If I were you I wouldn't do the side by side thing...If you do a lot of shopping!!!

Dont do it, I hate the side by side!!!! Jack could touch the baby while she is sleeping. I just cant stand them. And they are so wide from side to side. I know that some people love them, But I just cant stand them. I think it's super hard to turn with one hand. And a lot of times I use one hand. I just think you need to go to a store and test them out. I have to say that I think the Graco seems to be the best bet. I owned two of them. Then I eventually had to get rid of it because my kids got too heavy in the stroller to push. But all in all, I loved it the most! Just a side note, I hate Combi. I know lots of people who love them, but I just dont think they are sturdy. I own a single one and never use it!

I had a tandem one first and hated it. I think it's just preference! I thought it felt like a limo and it was sooo hard to turn. If you do go tandem, try to get the most compact one you can, that's my advice.

I 4-5 strollers (not proud of it, it just happend). I have both the side by side and the back to back.. or whatever they are called. I end up whenever possible using two single strollers (when I have another adult with me). With my side by side, I end up taking out people clothing racks, getting stuck in between doors and breaking up constant fights... with sweat running down my face...plus the car seat did not snap into it and that bugged me early on. with the tandom there is either hair pulling or kicking the other one in the back or head. Is this getting you excited about having two?? If I could do it over, I'd get the one where they are facing opposite eachother. good luck on your quest.

i am loving these suggestions. however, it is still about as clear as mud as to which stroller to buy.

my friend amy tipped me off to the baby trend double stroller that comes with two seats, you can clip in the carseat, plus, when jack is ready, I can take off the back seat and it becomes one of those sit-and-stand do-dads. Any commentary on this?

I have 2 words for you phil and ted. Phil and ted strollers are a little expensive, but you can find them cheaper on ebay. Trust me it will be the best money you've ever spent! It is the size of a single running stroller because one kid sits above the other. Plus it has seats that change around for when you have a newborn or 2 toddlers. I used my friend's, and I will for sure buy one when(if) I have 2 kids.

I have a tandem stroller that I am not using anymore, you are welcome to it as long as you don't mind the dust (you can either keep it or use it to test drive which is really the only way to make a decision...it's seriously like car shopping). This next go around I'm doing the sit/stand thing but that's because Natalie is older--I don't know that I would recommend it with Jack right now...

jana - I LOVE the phil and ted. however, you can't clip in the carseat, right? I think I would die without that option.

who knows? maybe i should just stay at home and avoid the need for a stroller.

Well, I don't speak from experience, but my neighbor has one like the one in the picture and it's a pain! Her toddler sits in front, which makes steering and turning very difficult. It seemed like a good idea to her when she was in the store and pushing it around with no kids in it, but pile two children in there and it's super hard to push! I've seen one that I would like if we ever have another baby. I think it's Phil & Ted's E3 double stroller. Good luck!

Okay so here is my two cents to just make you even more confused. i don't like the side by sides either. My friends who have one are always trying to navigate their way through everything! My suggestion is to not get a side by side!
Okay with that being said, I have the Graco double front stroller. i don't use it that often, but when I do, i haven't minded it that much. It has tons of basket space, two trays , and if Jack is in front and baby car seat is in back, no one can bug each other!

But I didn't use it unless I was doing a bigger outing so maybe that's why I didn't mind it. i hate to say it, but i think the answer is is that there is no perfect double. They are all bigger and heavier....but that is just one of the joys of having two kids so close in age!

I haven't heard of that BabyTrend stroller, but that sounds promising! :)

I've had both kinds too and I loved my side by side for certain outings and then loved the front to back for shopping and stores. you just have to experience it for yourself. You'll figure out what is best for your family. It's called "retun, return, return". I did it MANY times!

I've had both side by side and tandom, or whatever they are called, and by far I loved my side by side. I had a dreamer design jogging stroller and LOVED it!!! It would fold down to nothing, well almost nothing. I took on the plane, the zoo, the park, the mountains, but never running. Just kidding. It was great and I would buy another one if mine broke. Definetly worth a look into!! Good luck, they all cost a pretty penny!

Ali, I love this debate. So many responses on strollers. Being a mother of almost my fifth, and having too many strollers to admit, I think it's almost worse then buying a car. I agree with your friends, everyone has there own preference. Doesnt seem like there is a stroller out there that is perfect. I think it's kind of like Men. There isnt one out there that is perfect. You just have to pick one that has the feature you need and love the most!! I have seen a couple of moms pushing this stroller around! I asked and they seem to love it because you can put them forward or rear facing. Check it out, maybe one of your friends has tried it.

I have never seen a stroller so cheap and full of so many options. I sure love my bugaboo. I think I am going to just wait till they come out with a double! But see what you think of this cool one that I gave you the link to!!!

www.joovy.com.... I LOVE it! I sold my nice maclaren for this one and could not be happier!

Emily - thanks for the offer. I think I better bite the bullet and buy one for our future offspring.

patience - I've been looking at that one. It seems really cool.

Summer - Love, love, love the sit and stand idea. On the joovy, it seems like jack might be hunched over on the back seat because the front is reclined to hold the infant carrier. any thoughts? what is the lap strap like? Jack is an active 18 month old that will try to wriggle his way out of everything!

Check out the Phil and Ted's.

Around here (UTAH) they are rare to see, but I'm such a fan. They are spendy, and you do have to buy accessories to make it fit two children. But look into it and see what you think. It does have weight restrictions for two children. Like 35 pounds or something for the second child. But that doesn't bother me. Rosa is not even 35 pounds and she is almost 3.

It is extremely easy to move around as it is not a side by side, because it has three wheels and you can make the wheel swivel or be stationary. It is also not very long in length so you still feel like you have control of the stroller.

wow.. i was blog surfin on summers blog list and came on your blog, and i too just had this stage in my life hit and after asking tons of moms, i got the phil in teds. actually we must have a few friends in common because i see several of my friends have already commented on this post. (jana... wendy...)in fact jana was likely reffering to my phil and teds that she used last week at d land... funny what a small world it is. anyways sorry for the loooong comment, but i would highly recommend the phil and teds, little pricey but WAY worth it. and jana said uou can find them new on e bay for a little less. good luck, and happy shopping.
